I’ve been delayed a number of times getting back to scribing A Darkling Nine. I have three short projects to finish before going back to that novel. Good thing is, when I’m in productive mode, my head begins working on the novel after the one I’m half-way through. I had some thoughts earlier this afternoon on what that novel, tentatively called Barnard’s Star, might look like.
Fact is, the book may not be called Barnard’s Star after all. I need to study some near space geography (astrography?) to determine whether Barnard’s Star will actually be a good setting. Despite not knowing if I must relocate the story, I did come up with a few scenes, and some activity that has to take place.
As for story, part of it will be held on Earth after the FTL prototype launched by Malshaak and friends arrives home. Part of it will be at Toliman and feature characters from the first book, and part of it at a third location that may or may not be Barnard’s Star.
This novel will feature the Betels far more heavily than did Rigel Kentaurus. Some of the feedback I’ve read suggests people want to learn more about the Betels and their mysterious ways, and that fits in well with my plans.
