It’s been almost a month since my last “weekly” update. Oops.
Things have changed in terms of my long fiction projects. I had a first reader get back to me on Turnabout, the SF/romance novel that began as my 2009 NaNoWriMo winner. There are some issues that need to be addressed in this novel, and this will take some time. Because this novel is not important to my long-term strategy as a fiction writer, I have decided to back-burner this novel indefinitely and address the problems at some undetermined later time.
Where does that leave things now? I have another first draft, this one for Rigel Kentaurus. I will begin my major editing pass on this novel today. While I had intended to release something by mid-December, it no longer looks like that is a realistic goal. While this novel has some issues I must address, they are not as intertwined with the plot as the issues with Turnabout.
At this point, my goal is to release Rigel Kentaurus in January and then start working on a new project. I had planned to write four novels in 2012. Whether that is still a plausible goal remains to be seen–it might fall back to three.
The next project in line is the much-talked-about novel concept Fishpunk.
Rigel Kentaurus is an important novel for my writing goals as it is the introductory novel in a sequence of interrelated stories that will span at least seven books. The second of these books is planned for the later part of 2012.
