Tank Photo – Black Moscow Guppy

Poecilia reticulata, or guppies, are commonly kept fish, but the fish you get at a big box store are nothing compared to those you can get from breeders.  I got this quartet of black Moscow strain guppies from a local breeder.  I was unable to get a decent closeup of the fish as they move around a lot, and also stay up near the surface where the tank light interferes with photos.

The fish that are completely black are the males, the fish that have some silver are the females.  That is typical of guppies, as is a size difference.  Females are about 50% larger.

These live in a 10-gallon planted tank that has been up for about a month, not much time to allow the plants to get established yet.
