Why the Rapture?

As I sat working in the yard this morning, I started thinking about the Rapture hype that we’ve been seeing for the past week. Clearly, most people believe it’s a bunch of hooey. But I have seen billboards proclaiming judgement day’s imminent arrival. Somebody is paying for that ad space,

That has me wondering. Why do some people adamantly believe the Rapture will occur today? And I think I have an idea why it might be.

Some people put everything they’ve got into their faith in God and in the Holy Bible. The world has been a very difficult place in which to live over the past three or four years. People with unwavering faith want to believe there will be a payoff for it.

Some interpretations, repeated by persons with an audience, place the Rapture today. The faithful believe it for the same reason they believe in what the Bible tells them. It is not a logical decision, it is a decision of faith. Faith cannot be explained, ask the faithful and they will tell you this themselves.

I rarely have issues with the faith of other people, and I don’t really even have any issue with the belief that today is the day. But when the clock strikes midnight this evening, bringing the day to a close, everyone will still be here. And when the 180 days elapse and we’re still here, it will be the human interpretation of The Word, and not The Word itself that is in error.

Either that, or God will have judged nobody worthy of ascension and the punishment for all of us is to continue living as we have.
