This afternoon I finished my edit of my novel Neanderthal Swan Song, incorporating all the tweaking that I needed in order to make some Japanese cultural items less archaic. The novel currently sits in the pile from Angry Robot publishing’s open call.
I filled in the EPUB template as I went through the draft, so I’m only a couple of hours away from being able to indie e-publish the book. I am a bit impatient with Angry Robot since I had intended to e-publish it before I submitted, and the slush pile introduces delay. That puts the novel in a holding pattern, so what’s next?
Top of the list is EPUB conversion of 2020 Visions. There are some technical hurdles to overcome if I want to keep the format the same as the print version. Namely, I want the table of contents to take the reader to the story introduction, which occurs higher on the page than the story title. I have a solution that I plan to try.
Also in the queue is my half of the next round of edits to a story I’m writing in collaboration with Ruth Nestvold. This has been semi-finished for several years and it will be nice to get it done.
After that, I have another non-fiction piece and few more short stories to clean up or finish. Then I have two novels to finish. I also have a short story collection that I want to convert into EPUB format.
I am not lacking for things to do. The good news is that unlike the past 4 years, I am actively working on my writing again. The fruits haven’t surfaced yet, but there is a lot going on behind the scenes.
