My entire family wore Packers gear to the Phoenix Open yesterday. There were 135,000 people on that golf course and I saw maybe 20 people wearing Steelers gear. We were getting constant high fives and Go Pack! shouted about every 50 steps as we moved around the outside of the course toward the infamous #16.
I do believe that on a karmic level my behavior impacts the team I want to win. Or call it superstition. I decided not to trash talk anyone this post season. After Green Bay beat Chicago and I encountered Bears fans in the days after, they would look at me and I’d only say, “I think cutler may have lost his job. That third string kid looked pretty good.”
At the Open yesterday, whenever the Steelers fans, always armed with those terrible towels, began to talk smack, all I’d say was, “It’s going to be a great game. ” or “Two great teams, that’s what the Superbowl is all about.”
But, if a Steelers fan says anything to me this coming week while I wear green and gold, I’ll only say, “Thirteen, baby!”
