I just finished piecing together the premise for the first story in my National Geographic Closet Space Marathon (which I outlined here).
I have the kernel of a story now, and it’s one that has some potential. Interestingly enough, this will probably be a fantasy story. It’s not completely unheard of for me to write fantasy. “The Great Basilisk Race” appeared in the June, 2008 issue of Tales of the Talisman.
This story will also feature a race with large animals. This time, it’s elephants. I may still come up with SFnal ways to explain everything but the feel will be akin to dark fantasy.
And by the way, if anyone is wondering whatever happened to “Fishpunk,” after some discussion with a Lawrence M Schoen a couple of weeks back, I decided to scrap the story in progress and put a lot more thought into what I was trying to do. “Fishpunk” will happen, just not as soon as I anticipated.
