Yesterday I mentioned that I shelved a story I had been struggling with for the past month and picked up something I shelved last summer. I pushed my way through the story and now I have a first draft.
The title is “Espantalho,” which is Portuguese for Scarecrow. It’s a dystopian story set in Sao Paolo, Brazil, but this isn’t the Sao Paolo we know today.
The story isn’t as long as I expected, just over 3100 words, but I think it’s solid. We’ll see. I plan to set it aside for a few days while I work on another semi-finished story. That will give me some distance when I come back to this one.
