Catching Up

It’s been a busy last couple of evenings.  I spent the better part of the evening hours on the 31st and 1st getting a bunch of stories that had been collecting digital dust on my hard drive back out into the market.  It has been a great while since I have had most of my work out there, and it feels good to be shopping it again.

One of the problems with having a lot of inventory is that it becomes difficult to get everything out there and keep it out there.  I still have 6 stories that aren’t in the market for various reasons.  Three of them relate to novels that are unpublished, and they probably won’t become very marketable until that changes, the others are left behind because either I can’t find a market to send them to, or the market I did find to fit them has another one of my stories.

It is much easier to keep stories circulating when they are sent back out immediately.  That way, they tend not to pile up, causing a situation where I send out 20 stories in two days.  That takes a lot of time, which is a deterrent in itself.

Moral: Follow Heinlein’s Rule #5 — Keep it on the market until sold.
