Not a solid day. Was interrupted by miscommunication on date/time for a meeting with Michael A. Stackpole, and that chewed up an hour. I managed to get about 800 words down today before being pulled away to help with 8th grade science homework. Fortunately, my day is wide open tomorrow. As it stands:
Day 3 / 810 words / 3179 total / -1321 from target
Day 2 / 1612 words / 2360 total / -631 from target
Day 1 / 757 words / 757 total / -743 from target
Not doing well compared to the goals, but I’m certainly making more progress than i did in January with many days of 0 words.
Rick:
Understand why you want to push yourself…but why not look at approach it the way Jim Van Pelt does: set a minimum goal (Jim's is 200 words/day) and then see anything after that as gravy.
So instead of it looking like this:
Day 3 / 810 words / 3179 total / -1321 from target
Day 2 / 1612 words / 2360 total / -631 from target
Day 1 / 757 words / 757 total / -743 from target
…it would look like this:
Day 3 / 810 words / 3179 total / +2579 from target
Day 2 / 1612 words / 2360 total / +1960 from target
Day 1 / 757 words / 757 total / + 575 from target
See the difference?
Just a thought.
Hi Jeff, thanks for the suggestion. It's an idea that works for some, but I find that if I don't push myself that my productivity tapers off. 200 words will become 150 then 80, then 25, then nothing for a few weeks.
For me it isn't so much a question of the word count goal as much as getting back the write every day habit, which outside of NaNo last November, I haven't had for a few years.
I also experience a kind of fog that makes the first 500 or so words difficult, and once I break past that, I can easily get to 2000.
